Sigri & Eresos

Sigri is one of the most beutiful places of the island and it is where the Petrified forester is located. The characteristic of this place is hot, dry, rocky, wild, gorgious blue waters and some times windy. Nowhere you will relax more than going to the Sigri area.

"Moni Ypsilou" (Tall Monestary) is a historic monastery that is operated by an active men's monastery, is dedicated to St John Theologos and is located in the west part of Lesbos, on the top of Mt Ordymnos, at a height of 634 m and at a distance of 81 km from Mytilene. Tradition places the foundation of the monastery in Byzantine years, before A.D. 800, and mentions it as "Monastery of Korakas", a name which was modified to "Monastery of Zisira" in the years of the Turkish occupation and the view looks something like this:

Thats a highly recommended visit!

Moving on another highlight of Sigri is the Petrified forest!

Visit this links for more information:
Here I need to point out that the Petrified Forest exites people in different ways so some may pay a small visit whereas others can hike for a day, the park is really massive and it is what you see in the pictures what you dont see is how awesome it is! Another think is that if you decide to go for a hike you can walk up until the see shore which at the end of the hills you see in this picture (Maybe thats an Iron Manders challenge)

Whatever you do pay a visit to the forest as well as to the museum which is very well done with a lot scientific information and cool interactive stuff. The recommendation is to see the museum after the forest.

Adisa - Gavathas

This is a mythical place of Sigri and the island, there is a lot of history and a lot of mystery in this part of the island. I will leave you to explore this peace by yourselves.

Some hints:
Antissa is a very historic place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antissa
Please see more information here: http://www.lesvos.com/antissa.html
Also make sure you pass by the castle of Ancient Antissa and go and swim to the beach called Gavathas.

Gavathas is the most "wild nature" type of beach in the island and it may not be for everyone if you dont feel adventurer is better to leave it.

Sigri

Sigri is one of the most famous fish places on the island to eat fish, so if you want to experience that go exactly where the green arow is pointing, to the last taverna of the port.

Eressos

When people refer to Eressos they most likely refere to Skala Eresou which is the beach, whereas Eressos is the village. 95% of the people who visit the island love Eressos if you thing of a care free vibe thats what Eressos is all about.

Eressos is a blend of different people from hippies to posh people who all they want to do is chill. For that particular reason, on the 3km long beach there are numurous bars which look something like this:

There is room for everyone on this beach.

Another key characteristic of this place is that it is the home of Sappfo .

When you are there pay a visit to Parassol (the bar you see on the photo above) you will enjoy it. When you are there you should not get concerned about high class accommodation and food, you can find a decent to good quality for both you should be concerner in leaving your mohito at the bar to have a swim in the sunset.

For the really adventurus ones:  For those who want to drive on a rocky road, for those who want to be on a hot beach withought a shade and be rewarded with a beach to yourselves which would look something like that:

.. and you can also have some delicious mezedes (greek tapas) at a motor home transformed to a taverna then look for: Xrousos and Podaras it is near Eressos and we let you explore getting there as these are the best kept secret places.

For those of you who would like something similar but they are on a family set up or they want something more reliable like that:

Then look for Tavari, for you we provide a map:

Finally if you want to experience some amazing shellfish make a stop to Apothika
