Getting there
There are two main ways to get to Mytilene.
A) Go to Athens and then to Mytilene
From Athens to Mytilene by Air
Fly directly to the "Odysseas Elitis" Airport Mytilene airport (MJT), usually by flying through Athens (but there are also seasonal flights from other European cities). There are not many airline choices here you can book with: http://en.aegeanair.com/By Boat
Take a ferry from Athens. This is a fun option if you have time to spend in Athens ahead of the wedding. There are two main boat options: the fast boat (which leaves Athens daily at 12:30 and gets to Lesvos around 8 hours later), and the slow overnight boat (which leaves Athens daily in the evening and arrives in Mytilene early the next morning, around 12 hours later). There may be some limitations to how far in advance you can book ferry travel. You will propably be able to book a ferrie from April. There are two Ferry Lines:
- Hellenic See Ways (I recommend this line, has newer ships, more comfort):http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/index.asp?a_id=209
Booking: http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/npgres/english/
TimeTables: http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/index.asp?a_id=971 - Nel Lineshttp://www.nel.gr/index.asp?a_id=95
Booking: you can reserve on the websiteTimeTable: http://www.nel.gr/index.asp?a_id=111
B) Go directly to Mytilene
Charter and Direct flights with no stop to Athens
Air Berlin has some flights from Dussledof (Berlin) to Mytilene. I have seen one that is has outbound on the 11 Jul and Inbound 17 Jul. http://www.airberlin.com
From UK you can find charter flights here: http://www.charterflights.co.uk. One relevant charter flight is this one: http://j.mp/zXSQvZ but it is for 14 days stay. Charters are always a hit or miss situation. For more charter flights information see http://www.lesvos.co.uk/charters.htm.
Other airlines that may have direct flights are: Luftansa, and Air France.

For our non-EU friends: Hertz requires that you have either an EU issued driver license or an International Driving Permit. The good news is that it's easy for Americans to get an IDP through AAA (you don't have to be a member) and the application can be submitted via the US mail. Here's the link in case any of your other guests need it: http://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html
Please call the agency from which you will book the car, to confirm that there is no issue with your driving license.
