Angela and Lefteris: Samothraki

This destination is harder to go to but it is worth it as it is a completely different type of island.

Samothraki does have nice beaches, but thats not what is famous of. If you want nice beaches go to Lemnos or Koufonisia. What is famous of is the beautiful mountain kalled "Feggari" in Greek which means Moon and is the tallest mountain in the area, it is 1.6km high. Moreover what is also famous of is its reach ancient history and the very well maintained ruins there are (see links bellow for more information). Another thing that Samothraki is famous of is the gorgeous waterfalls it has, where people go and swim or even jump!

It is a great island if you want to hike, enjoy mountain nature, see ancient greek ruins and be on a greek island at the same time. It is quite unique in this regard. Depending you skill and will hiking can start from low difficulty to extreme difficult. I do not know any of my friends to have reached the 3rd level of waterfalls, so in this regard it can be also a challenge for you if you like. If you are not hardcore then you can stay at the 1st level of waterfalls and life will be sweet. It is definitely not the island to stay all day on the beach as its beauty is on the mountain.

Finally it is a hard way to get there its 12 to 15 hours from Pireus, but its closer to go from Thesalloniki. It will take an effort to get there but if the above and bellow sound appealing you should go for it! However your may be lucky, as some years there are ferries from Mytilini or Sigri, and there may be a chance that you find ferries through Lemnos. It is not straightforward and the advice would be to use a travel agent for this.
